Getting started

Will OneNotch work on my Mac?

OneNotch needs an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later. It has layouts for MacBooks with a notch, MacBooks and displays without one, and external displays. It is Mac-only: there is no Windows, Linux, iPhone or iPad version.

Does it work on a Mac without a notch?

Yes. On a screen without a notch, including an external display, OneNotch becomes a pill that floats at the top of the screen and carries the same pages as on a MacBook.

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for. Download it, open it, and use it.

Which languages is OneNotch available in?

The app comes in 18 languages: English, Arabic, Czech, German, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. It follows your Mac's language by default, and you can pick another one in Settings > General.

Will the notch show up in my screenshots and screen recordings?

Only if you want it to. In Settings > General, Hide on screen capture lets you choose when OneNotch stays out of screenshots and recordings, including the ones OneNotch takes itself.

How do I update OneNotch?

OneNotch checks for new versions on its own and offers to install them. You can also check by hand from Settings. The release notes on the Updates page list every change.

Free, Pro and Supporter

Is there a time limit on the free version?

No. Free is not a trial and never expires. Music, lyrics, Live Activities, screenshots and markup, Quick Translate, file actions, window snapping, AI agent monitoring and today's calendar are all in Free. Pro is optional and raises limits or adds advanced tools.

What are the limits of the free version?

The clipboard keeps your 50 most recent items for up to 24 hours, and you get one board with up to 10 pins. Pro-only tools include iCloud sync, scrolling capture, background removal, auto-redaction, the full dictionary with pronunciation, replacing selected text with its translation, extra window layouts, and calendar summaries and new events for days other than today.

What does Pro add?

Pro keeps up to 1,000 clipboard items for as long as you choose, gives you 20 boards with 200 pins each, and adds iCloud sync between your Macs. It also unlocks the advanced capture and markup tools, the full dictionary, more window layouts, and calendar summaries and new events for any day. One Pro license works on up to two Macs.

Is there a subscription?

No. Pro and Supporter are one-time purchases. You pay once and the license is yours, with all future updates included.

What is Supporter?

Supporter has exactly the same features as Pro. It costs more, works on up to five Macs, and adds a supporter badge in the app. It is for people who want to help OneNotch stay independent.

What if Pro isn't right for me?

You can ask for a refund within 7 days of purchase. Email support@tryonenotch.com from the address you used at checkout. A refunded license stops unlocking Pro the next time the app checks it.

Your license

How do I activate my license?

Open OneNotch's Settings, go to the About tab, and paste your license key. The key is in the email you received at checkout. OneNotch stores it in your Mac's Keychain.

How do I move my license to a new Mac?

On the old Mac, open Settings > About and choose Deactivate License. That frees its seat, and you can then activate the same key on the new Mac. A Pro key has two seats and a Supporter key has five.

I lost my license key. How do I get it back?

Your key was emailed to the address you used at checkout, so search that inbox for your order receipt. You can also sign in with the same email at onenotch.lemonsqueezy.com/billing to see your orders and license keys.

Does OneNotch need an internet connection to stay unlocked?

Not for everyday use. OneNotch re-checks your license with Lemon Squeezy every few days during the first two months and about once a month after that. If it cannot connect, Pro stays unlocked for up to 60 days after the last successful check.

Privacy and data

Where is my data stored?

Clipboard history, boards and screenshots are stored on your Mac. OneNotch does not run a server that holds your clipboard. If you turn on iCloud sync, the history goes to your own private iCloud, stored in encrypted fields.

Does iCloud sync work with my iPhone or iPad?

No. iCloud sync (a Pro feature) syncs clipboard history between your Macs only, and OneNotch has no iPhone or iPad app. Images larger than 10 MB stay on the Mac they were copied on.

Can I keep passwords and private apps out of my history?

Yes. OneNotch skips anything a password manager marks as concealed or temporary, you can add apps to an ignore list, and you can pause clipboard capture entirely in Settings.

Which features send data over the internet?

Translation, synced lyrics, link previews, currency rates, update checks and license checks all connect to the internet when you use them. Clipboard content is never uploaded by OneNotch itself. The next question covers translation, which is the one that sends your text.

Where does my text go when I translate it?

By default OneNotch translates on your Mac with Apple's on-device translation when macOS has that language pair, and otherwise falls back to Google Translate. If you want nothing to leave your Mac, choose Apple (on-device) in the translation settings. If you add your own Claude, OpenAI or Gemini key, your text goes to that provider instead.

What does OneNotch collect about me?

Anonymous usage data and crash reports, and nothing else. Usage data is at most one small signal per day with your app and macOS version, Mac model, language, which settings are on, and feature counts. A crash report holds the crash details and the Mac model. Neither contains your clipboard, files, window titles, name or email. Turn it all off with Send anonymous usage data in Settings > General.

Permissions

Why does OneNotch ask for system permissions?

Each permission switches on one feature, and you can skip any of them. Accessibility lets OneNotch paste into other apps, snap windows and replace the volume HUD. Screen Recording is for screenshots. Calendar and Reminders show and create your events. Full Disk Access is optional and only improves Focus mode details. You can change all of them later in macOS System Settings.

AI agents

Which AI tools can OneNotch track?

Claude Code and Codex running in the terminal. OneNotch shows each session, what it is doing, usage and limits, and lets you approve or deny permission requests from the notch. It does not track the Claude or Codex desktop apps, because they do not write the files OneNotch reads.

Is AI monitoring on by default, and what does it change?

It is off by default. When you turn it on, OneNotch adds small hooks to Claude Code and Codex so they can report their status, and it reads their session files on your Mac. You can remove the hooks at any time with the Remove button in the AI settings.
