While a Claude Code or Codex session is working, the closed notch shows that agent on both sides. You don't need to open the terminal to see whether it's done.
The two sides of the notch
- Left side: an animal that represents the agent. Clawd is Claude Code, and the cloud is Codex. Its animation changes with what the agent is doing: thinking, running a command, compacting context, waiting for you, finished.
- Right side:
- Running: the running indicator in the style you chose in Settings › AI › Running indicator, orange for Claude and blue for Codex.
- Waiting for you: an orange !.
- Just finished: a ring showing your remaining quota.

When an agent finishes
OneNotch plays a chime (unless you've turned on Mute alerts). The running indicator changes to the quota ring for a few seconds, along with the conversation's name and how long it ran, for example "Done in 2m 14s". If the notch is busy with something else, a short line slides out below the notch to tell you which session finished.

Which agents appear
- Only sessions that are running or waiting for you appear. Idle sessions don't.
- If there are several sessions, the one in the app you're using comes first, then the most recent one.
- While music is playing, the agent appears on the left and the music waveform on the right.
Tip
Hover over one side of the notch or click it to see what the agent is doing. See "See what an agent is doing".
