Common problems

What to do when the notch doesn't appear, a feature doesn't work even though you granted permission, a shortcut doesn't respond or you don't see updates.

A feature doesn't work even though you granted permission

This often happens after you update or reinstall OneNotch. Go to System Settings › Privacy & Security, open that permission (Accessibility or Screen Recording), remove the old OneNotch entry with the – button, then add it again and turn on its switch. See "Grant permissions to OneNotch".

The notch doesn't appear or appears in the wrong place

  • Check Settings › General › App & Displays: the notch may be on another display (Display). Turn on Show on all displays if you use more than one display.
  • If Show when idle is off, the closed notch only appears when it has something to show. You can still open it by hovering over it.
  • The notch hides when an app is in full screen if you chose that in Full Screen.
  • Other notch apps or menu bar managers (Bartender, Ice, Hidden Bar, NotchNook, Alcove…) can compete with OneNotch for space. Try quitting them.

Two copies of OneNotch are running

If you have one copy in Downloads and another in Applications, running both at once can make the notch unclickable. Keep only one copy in Applications and quit the other.

Snapping windows does nothing

If you turned on Snap windows from the notch before granting Accessibility permission, turn that switch off and on again, or use the menu bar › Restart OneNotch.

Screenshot shortcuts don't work

  • ⇧⌘3 and ⇧⌘4 require turning on Replace macOS Screenshot Keys and turning off the matching shortcuts in System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts › Screenshots.
  • Other apps that use the same keys (for example Shottr, or Xcode with ⇧⌘2 and ⇧⌘1) run at the same time as OneNotch. Change the keys in one of the two apps.

You don't see updates

Check that Check for updates automatically in Settings › About is on, or click Check for Updates…. OneNotch should be in the Applications folder to update.

The menu bar icon is gone

Open OneNotch again from Spotlight or Finder: the Settings window opens. Turn Show menu bar icon back on in Settings › General.

The glass effect option is dimmed

Glass effect requires a version of macOS with Liquid Glass. On older versions of macOS, OneNotch uses a compatible drawing style and the option is turned off.

Hide menu bar items stops working

Click Reset in Settings › Utilities › Menu Bar › Reset divider position. This feature isn't available on macOS 27.

Nothing else works

  • Use the menu bar › Restart OneNotch.
  • Send a bug report through Settings › Support › Report a Bug, with system information included.
